Someone once said if you want three opinions on a subject, ask two Baptists.  We are slow to settle on most issues, and those with a contentious bend never really get solved, as much as they find themselves resting on a shelf until a new idea comes along that challenge the thoughts anew.

You can get any number of controversies going when you begin to defend what you personally believe the scriptures teach on different subjects.  Most everyone has an opinion on the Rich man and Lazarus; or was Judas a child of God?  Did God love Esau a little less?  Does the soul sleep at death?  Was Adam born again after the fall?  There is no end to the conflicts which can arise out of study of God’s word.

Most of these, and other divisive subjects and doctrines are resolved by two or three manners.  One, we rightly divide the word or truth, testing scripture against scripture, until we have an answer.  Two, we lay the matter aside and promise to come back after prayer, study and better insight by discussing it with more knowledgeable parties, or three, agree it’s not a matter worthy of falling out with our brethren.  That is, we agree to disagree and not make it a test of fellowship as one stand or another doesn’t appear to harm doctrine.

Testing the most controversial subject ever, it’s been suggested a preacher could do nothing but quote scripture after scripture making the point, albeit without explanation, and still have half the audience declare say “I didn’t believe a word you said.”

And of course, you too, will at first recoil when you hear the premise of this little article.  “That goes against the grain of everything I’ve ever been taught.”  "That goes against science, the world, my education and even what I’ve been taught in the church."

We wonder sometimes how the scriptures are to be viewed.  Are we to take every single verse literally – that is, true, without error or exception?  We begin, as any one seeking the truth of God’s words, with the postulation that the scriptures are true, and without error, and have been preserved by God unto this present hour:

2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Let God be true, and every man a liar, tells us clearly, that when God’s word conflicts with man, we need to take God’s as true and reject man’s, even when it flies in the face of conventional wisdom.

But the key is to rightly divide.  We understand some of the language in the scriptures is poetic.  Some is historical.  Some is meant to be allegorical, and some, like Revelations is written in sign language.

Paul cautioned Timothy to avoid the oppositions of science, falsely so called.

1Ti 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane [and] vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: 1Ti 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.

We learn a couple of things from the above verse.  One, there is a type of science which opposes scripture.  Paul classified it as “science, falsely so called.”  It’s a false science, which, if a man is professing, will cause error concerning the faith.  Two, we learn there must be a true science, which will compliment, and confirm the scripture.  It’s been said that science, in the process of advancing transfusions, discovered as recently as World War II that the life force of man resides in his blood.

Lev 17:14 For [it is] the life of all flesh; the blood of it [is] for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh [is] the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

Several thousand years earlier than science.

But what the scriptures teach about the world and its position in the universe will spark more than a little discussion.

No matter what stand science and the world takes, we rest on what the scriptures declare with confidence.  While man may debate whether the animals needed to continue life could all be contained on Noah’s ark, we understand by faith and belief that the ark was sufficient to accomplish the instructions God gave to Noah.  When man says the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, we stand on God’s word and say nay, but 6000 years.

Evolutionists will insist our universe is ever-expanding and we are the result of transformation over millions of ages.  We point to the scriptures and tell one and all the Heavens declare the Glory of God – and they were declared in six, twenty- four hour days.

So we do stand strong against the fallacies of science, when we know the scriptural facts  But now we have a controversy before us about which few have been educated.  Wait – let me state it this way:  We’ve been educated incorrectly, in clear defiance of the scriptures.

1Ti 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane [and] vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: 1Ti 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith

For nearly a century, science falsely so-called has caused many of us to err concerning the faith.  They have dictated an agenda clearly in contrast to the word of God.  They have taught a science designed to support and uphold Evolution.

In order for evolution, (which we declare a “science, falsely so-called” and moreover, a religion unto itself) to be true, the Earth must be older than the 6000 years the Bible declares.  In fact, the Earth must also exist in an ever-expanding universe, created from a Big Bang, billions and billions of years ago. It is only that expansive theory which allows time for the permutations espoused by false science.

Are you ready to have your world view shaken?

In order to provide a foundation for evolution to rest upon, science found it necessary to reshape our universe.  The system they settled upon is called heliocentricity. This is what is used to define a year (the amount of time it takes the earth to revolve around the sun); a day, the amount of time it takes for the earth to make one revolution: twenty four hours.  They also declare the earth tilts on an axis, which, combined with the distance from the sun gives us our seasons.  Heliocentricity – sun centered.  It means the sun is the ‘center “of our solar system.  And this is what we are taught from the day we enter school.

And thus, our aptly chosen title.  “The most controversial subject you’ve never heard.

Because the Bible teaches that the Earth does not move.

It does not rotate.  It does not tilt upon an axis, nor does it take a year long elliptical path around the sun.  It stays where the Lord put it – and it is the center of our God's focus– in fact, perhaps the center of the entire universe.

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing" (Job 26:7).

"The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished (stabilized), that it CANNOT BE MOVED" (Psalm 93:1).

"Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved" (I Chronicles16:30).

This is called Geo-centricity.  You may be surprised to learn that for the majority of the planet’s existence, this is what was taught, understood and believed about the earth.

The Biblical geocentric model of the universe is encapsulated in an acronym called WYSIWYG—What You See Is What You Get.  (pronounced Wisy-Wig.)

True science is supposed to be based on observation. We see the array of stars wheeling around the earth approximately daily, and we motorize our telescopes to follow their steady motion. We see the sun rising and setting daily. We see the planets doing roughly the same thing, and we see the moon following them on a somewhat different schedule, all revolving around the earth as our eyes testify.

What justification is there from what we observe to arbitrarily assume the stars are fixed and the earth rotating?  The beauty of geo-centricity is that what you see is what you get! It is a simple and readily understandable scenario for those who are willing to believe what their eyes tell them, and make the mental transition back to the instinctive reference frame of a stationary earth.

We could now start to browbeat you with verse after verse of scripture that makes the point clearly that the earth is fixed and it is the sun, much smaller and much closer than we’ve been led to believe that goes around the earth, but let’s consider for a moment instead the magnitude of our proclamation.

Modern science – claims to have been to the moon.  They’ve shown us their rockets and spacecraft they claim made it to Mars, around Jupiter, towards Saturn.  They’ve mapped out the entire universe – with their floating Hubble telescope.

Yet in spite of all these fantastic accomplishments and seemingly overwhelming evidence, to declare to others that the earth does not move, in this day and age might cause people to fit you with a straight jacket and book you some time in a padded room to keep you from hurting yourself.  Indeed, how backward and primitive thinking can some people be?

Of course, that supplies the controversy in our debate.  We can carefully examine all the evidence man and the sciences offer, and contrast it with all the scriptures tell us and be firmly convinced in our mind that one of them is wrong.  And be sure, only one of the positions can be the truth.

We can’t say the scriptures are in error.  We can’t declare mistakes in how they were translated, or blame it on more ignorant man’s lack of understanding when the scriptures were penned.  We simply cannot.  If the scriptures are at fault or in error in one subject, then indeed, can any of the book be reliable?

I’ve always tried to study the bible with this caveat:  The truth can withstand the most intense scrutiny.  If something is true, then we shouldn’t be afraid to examine it and prove it so.  That’s the position we must take with Geo-centricity.  It’s not true because we say it is; it’s true because God says it is, and He’s left us sufficient evidence to confirm it.

Before we begin to look at the errors of man, let’s consider who profits from creating a system centered around the Sun.  If God’s people could be made to question God’s word – if God’s system can be declared silly, old-fashioned, and ridiculous - who prospers?

We know in building, one doesn’t install the walls then weeks later add a foundation underneath.  That’s silly.  Consider:  the earth was formed on day one, and then was nothing for it to go around under Satan’s heliocentricity system until the fourth day.  So from the very first chapter of the Bible, God identifies Satan’s counterfeit system.

As a child, when I was first taught that the earth revolves at over 1000 miles per hour at the equator, I began to speculate and enter into all types of fantasies.  In short order, I had solved at least half the transportation problems of the world with a simple premise:  I would ascend straight up in a hot air balloon, several hundred feet, then come down exactly one hour later and be 1000 miles (or more, being so far North of the equator) to the West of where I began.  Adults would try to explain to me why such a theory was nonsense, and give me grown up explanations about Newton’s laws, some magical ether which traveled with the globe and so on.

The sun is referred to as rising nine times in scripture. Setting, once, sun down, thirty three times and the phrase sun goeth is used five times. Not once – not once does the word Earth appear with an action verb – travel, spin, etc.  In fact, in all of scripture, the words orbit, revolve or rotate are unknown.  That’s a pretty glaring oversight for a book that explains so much in such detail.  Pro 3:19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

According to the Book of Genesis, the sun was not created until the 4th day.

The earth was created FIRST and is the center of the universe.

Biblical verses abound referring to the sun's movement, while not ONE verse ever refers to the earth as MOVING:

"The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. (Ecclesiastes 1:5).

"The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof (Psalm 50:1).

We will need to re-think what we’ve been taught.  If the sun is indeed orbiting the earth every 24 hours – as our eyes tell us, then it must be must closer than we’ve been told.  And much smaller.

Heliocentric "astronomers" greatly exaggerate the size of the solar system and the universe. They make the universe so big that it cannot possibly orbit the earth in 24 hours.

The ancient Greeks said the sun was only about 3,000,000 miles from the earth. This was the number given by Ptolemy and the great Arab astronomer al-Battani. Even Copernicus in his book  On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres. gives the number at about 3,000,000 miles. The rotating earth people stuck a 9 in front of the 3 and with this mathematical sleight of hand we have a sun whose distance from the earth is exaggerated 30 times!!  In truth, it may be much, much closer still.

As well as orbiting the stationary earth every 24 hours, the sun also follows a spiral orbit from north to south each year. That is what gives us the 4 seasons.

The earth is NOT TILTED 23.4°degrees (that's 66.6 degrees off 90, by the way). It is UPRIGHT as God created man to walk UPRIGHT. The tilted earth probably came from Galileo as he looked through the telescope and saw that some of the planets were tilted in their orbits around the sun. A tilted EARTH could be an explanation for the seasons, he reasoned, as people were still apt to ask difficult questions about the reason for the seasons! But here's another shocker:  The bible says the MOON is for the seasons.

By now, we've managed to upset your applecart and world view - you either are intrigued and ready to study the word of God to find out more, or you've decided to cast off all this as nonsense.  I was too at that point several years ago.  When it was first presented, I laughed so hard I didn't believe such a theory worthy of my time.  But I promised someone I would look at the subject with an open mind and I haven't looked back.  My personal "a-ha" moment of truth came as I studied Joshua and the sudden calamity that would have occurred with the earth stopping and restarting.  Since it didn’t happen, I had to accept it for fact as the scriptures report.  The sun and moon stood still.

When I saw the document that NASA provided to an inquiry saying that all their launches are based on "fixed earth" calculations, I knew we had been deceived.

I sat about to correct much of my learning and ended up creating a website dedicated to Static Earth research.  I provided as much science as I could, but the world wasn’t interested.  I put the term static earth into a search engine on the internet and returned about 30 results.  After 5 years, I was able to increase interest to return over 100 results.

Today, the phrase results are incredible:

Four hundred forty four million web pages, articles, images, questions.    People are waking up to God’s truth.

I owe a debt of gratitude first to the Lord, for opening my eyes and understanding - and to those God-fearing men who bravely declared Geo-Centricity the truth long before I did.
